Why You Need a Pest Control License?
All Canadian provinces require all pest control technicians to have a pesticide license. In Ontario specifically, there are three types of pesticide licenses you’ll have to obtain, depending on the nature of your business.
Exterminator License
This license allows you to apply pesticides in order to eliminate or reduce the population of pests. The exterminator license applies to structural, water, and land extermination.
What Do Our Pest Control Specialists Do?
All pest control jobs are tasked with removing any unwanted pests. These pests may vary from rats and cockroaches in households to ticks and bed bugs that have infested buildings.
A pest control specialist comes to customer home and before using the required pesticides to kill pests, tries to determine the root cause of the problem and offers you long-term solutions. They may recommend that you try to keep your kitchen as neat and tidy as possible, and for you to also keep your food in the fridge or airtight containers as an untidy room with lots of food is bound to attract pests, and only after inspection will use the necessary pesticides that will kill the pests, and then leave once the job is done.

Why is IPM Important?
IPM (Integrated Pest Management) involves analyzing and coming to an appropriate pest control technique or measure that will reduce pest infestations, while also taking into consideration the health of humans and the environment. IPM also takes into consideration the most cost-effective measures to reach this.
Because IPM takes a look at not only lowering or stopping a pest infestation but also the preventative methods that can be implemented, it is more of a proactive rather than a reactive approach to pest control. IPM is important because it focuses on coming to solutions that are ideal for both human beings and the environment.
What are the Principles of IPM?
1. Inspections
For proper IPM to take place, it is important for pest control jobs and to understand the types and levels of pest infestation. This is achieved through regular inspections and monitoring.
2. Documentation
IPM also requires a record-keeping system. This becomes important in identifying certain patterns or trends with pests. Documentation will involve identifying the specific pests, the size of the population, what treatment was carried out, and if there’s a recommendation for preventative methods.
3. An Action Threshold
IPM seeks individuals to understand that an acceptable number of pests are a part of life and should be tolerated. Before a plan to eradicate the pests can be put into place, it is important to first establish if they will cause damage to your well-being or property.
For instance, if you’re a farmer, you’re bound to have some bugs in the field around your crops, but how much is too much? The action threshold is the population density the bugs will reach before managing the pests will take place.
4. Prevention Tactics
One of the core principals of Pest Control Jobs and IPM is looking at preventative measures. These tactics should take into consideration costs as well as the environmental impact. When a decision is made to use pesticides, the pesticides with the least-toxic materials are favoured. This will help to ensure that the problematic pests are minimized, while also not exposing humans and other non-target organisms to harmful toxins.
5. Evaluation
Once a tactic has been applied, it is important to document and evaluate its success. This will help to guide future IPM measures.
